Smoky Lake is a must-see, beaming with great volunteers, multi-culturalism and sportsmanship. Besides the amazing lakes and rolling hillsides, there are grainfields everywhere and lush boreal forests that provide a perfect breeding ground for a wide variety of birds and game. With the addition of the Iron Horse Trail, the area is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts throughout the entire year. This is a multi-use trail system that runs west from Waskatenau straight to through Heinsburg, close to the Saskatchewan border.

The Annual Great White North Pumpkin Fair and Weigh-off held the first weekend every October offer locals and visitors a challenge to grow some of the worlds largest pumpkins, guords, squash, watermelon and field pumpkins. 2013 marks the 25th anniversary for the Smoky Lake Pumpkin Growers Association.

Smoky Lake is also now the BirthdayTownAlberta site where upon registration at the Smoky Lake Inn, your birthday grants you free gifts from local businesses. Pretty cool huh?! We think so and hope you will enjoy your stay whether you live, work, play or visit us.
