NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING

Land Use Bylaw

Pursuant to the Municipal Government Act, RS.A. 2000, Sections 230, 606 and 692, the
Council of the Town of Smoky Lake hereby gives notice of its intention to adopt:
Bylaw No. 007-18 Land Use Bylaw of the Town of Smoky Lake
The purpose of the Bylaw is to repeal and replace the existing Land Use Bylaw 011-06 and
approve a new Land Use Bylaw.
THEREFORE TAKE NOTICE THAT pursuant to Sections 606 and 692 of the
Municipal Government Act a public hearing to consider the proposed By-Law will be
held:

Date: Tuesday, September 4th, 2018
Time: 4:00 pm
Place: Smoky Lake Council Chambers

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT anyone wishing to make a verbal or written
representation may do so at the hearing, or by providing the representation to the
Town’s Chief Administrative Officer before 12:00 p.m. on August 30th, 2018. It would
be beneficial for individuals to provide advance notice to the Town of Smoky Lake at
780.656.3674 of their intention to make a presentation at the hearing.

AND FURTHER TAKE NOTICE THAT a copy of the proposed Bylaw may be
inspected at the Town of Smoky Lake office during normal business hours.

eastlink discontinuation of services

On behalf of Eastlink, we would like to thank you for being a customer. We regret to inform you that as of October 1st we will no longer be providing television services in your community.

Although your television services may continue to work after October 1st, as we work to disconnect the service in your community, you will not be billed for any service past your September statement. 52 Avenue Paving Project deferred till the Spring of 2019

Dear Residents:

Please be advised that on July 4, 2018 at the Town of Smoky Lake’s Regular Council Meeting MOTION: 3393/18 was MOVED by Councillor Morton that the 2018 Surface Works Improvements Paving Project on 52 Avenue be deferred till the Spring of 2019 (weather permitting) to factor in ground settlement; and Administration write a letter to be distributed in the July 2018 Town Utility Bills advising the residents of this matter.

With the community being our main priority, council adopted recommendations of contractor, Nikiforuk Construction Ltd. to ensure best outcomes for this project.

Notice of Public Hearing

Pursuant to Section 606 of the Municipal Government Act, Chapter M-26, RSA 2000 and amendments thereto, notice is hereby given advising of a Public Hearing, to be held on August 7, 2018 commencing at 4:00p.m.  in the Town of Smoky Lake Council Chamber located at 56 Wheatland Avenue, Smoky Lake, AB.

The purpose of the hearing is to provide the public with the opportunity to comment on proposed Bylaw No. 005-18 being a bylaw to amend Land Use Bylaw 11-06

The amendment is to redistrict Pt. Lot 5, Plan 772-3091 to Direct Control (DC) District from Urban Reserve (UR) District.

 

A copy of the proposed Bylaw No. 005-18 is attached and can also be reviewed at the Town of Smoky Lake Administration Office, located at 56 Wheatland Ave, during normal business hours (8:30a.m.-4:00p.m. Monday-Friday). The public may provide written comments to the Town of Smoky Lake Chief Administration Officer Adam Kozakiewicz at 56 Whatland Ave, until 4:00 pm on or before August 3, 2018 or may be in attendance to make comment at the Public Hearing.

Youth EPIC July 26 and August 8 Cancelled

Sadly we have canceled  the July 26th YOUTH EPIC as well as Aug 8th EPIC Trivia Night. We are looking at still holding the Aug 22nd one (bouncy houses and tie dye t-shirts).

National Drowning Prevention Week Proclamation

NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS the mission of the Lifesaving Society Canada is to prevent drowning throughout this great country, and even one drowning in Alberta is one too many; and

WHEREAS most drownings are preventable in a Water Smart community, and only through Water Smart education and a healthy respect for the potential danger that any body of water may present can we truly enjoy the beauty and recreation opportunities offered by these bodies of water; and

WHEREAS the Lifesaving Society urges Canadians and residents of the Town of Smoky Lake to actively supervise children who are in and around the water, to refrain from drinking alcoholic beverages while participating in aquatic activities, and to wear a lifejacket at all times while boating; and

WHEREAS the Lifesaving Society Canada has declared July 15-21, 2018 National Drowning Prevention Week to focus on the drowning problem and the hundreds of lives that could be saved this year.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT, I, Hank Holowaychuk, Town of Smoky Lake Mayor, do hereby proclaim July 15-21, 2018 NATIONAL DROWNING PREVENTION WEEK in the Town of Smoky Lake and do commend its thoughtful recognition to all citizens of our the Town of Smoky Lake.

Heritage Days Parade

On behalf of the Town of Smoky Lake I would like to formally invite you to participate in our annual Heritage Day Parade. This year the Annual Smoky Lake Heritage Day Parade will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2018. The theme is “30 Years of Pumpkin Fair” in which the colors orange, white and yellow are encouraged. Your participation in this Parade would be very much appreciated.

The parade will start at the Smoky Lake Agricultural Complex with registration and assembly starting at 9:30a.m. The registration table will be set up by the East Entrance of the Complex. The judging will take place at the complex upon registration at and prizes will be awarded prior to commencement.
