Office Administration Clerk

The Town of Smoky Lake is seeking one (1) temporary Full-time Office Administration Clerk to assist staff in the Administration department and the Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) department under the Canada Summer Jobs program. The Canada Summer Jobs program is an initiative of the Youth Employment and Skills Strategy, which aims to provide support for all young Canadians to develop skills and gain paid work experience to successfully transition in the labour market. Applicants must meet the criteria and is open to ages 15 – 30 years old. The anticipated start date will be between July 6 – 10, 2020 and ending August 31, 2020, with the possibility of an extension. 

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • • Respond to telephone inquiries, relay messages and assist with customers. 
  • • Assist with bill payments, deposits and other accounting duties that may be required. 
  • • Assist with Town communications such as responding to emails and updating the municipal Facebook page. 
  • • Provide administrative support to other members of the municipal office staff when required. 
  • • Produce, maintain and file any forms, records, reports and correspondence as required. 
  • • Assist with Economic Development tasks. 
  • • Assist the FCSS Program Coordinator with various tasks. 
  • • Perform other duties as may be assigned. 

Qualifications: 

  • • Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs such as Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. 
  • • Proven experience to work with confidential information. 
  • • Strong customer service skills with the ability to represent the Town of Smoky Lake in a professional manner. 

Remuneration: 

  • • Remuneration will be based on experience, knowledge and abilities.

Applicants must meet the criteria and is open to ages 15 – 30 years old. Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • • Respond to telephone inquiries, relay messages, and assist with customers. 
  • • Greet all visitors while informing them about the history of Smoky Lake. 
  • • Perform general cleaning duties and sanitizing. 
  • • Sell and record souvenir sales. 
  • • Outdoor maintenance duties such as water flowers and cut grass. 
  • • Weed flower bed at Pumpkin Park. 
  • • Assist with Economic Development tasks. 
  • • Assist with the Public Works department such as cutting grass, watering flowers etc. 

Qualifications: 

  • • Organized and can keep a clean working environment. 
  • • Possess strong communication skills. 
  • • Able to communicate with the public. 
  • • Willing to learn the history of Smoky Lake

Mètis Nation of Alberta

The Mètis Nation of Alberta is inviting and encouraging sub-contractors and tradespeople from Smoky Lake Region to apply with contractors and be a part of their Project: the Mètis Crossing Cultural Gathering Centre.  This is an amazing opportunity to be a part of this awesome project and contribute to the greater Reconciliation efforts with indigenous peoples occurring across the Nation.

The project design goals were to create dynamic spaces for authentic experiences with a south facing deck and transition space for indoor/outdoor programming.  The river run stone fireplace with be a highlight to gather around and host jigs while viewing travelling museum showcases.  It will also contain an open Mètis Kitchen and gathering space.  It has been designed to maximize operational and energy efficiencies.  I have attached a few images from the architect to visualize what it will potentially look like.
